Privacy Policy
What this website collects, why we keep it, and what we never ask for online.
What this website collects
There are two forms on this site: the intake wizard at /start and the contact form. Both send what you type to our secure database. That is the only information this website collects about you.
- Intake answers — what you need help with, how you would like to meet, which tax years you need, how you would like to handle the fee, and the situation tags you select.
- Contact details — first name, last name, email address, and optionally a phone number and your state.
- Contact form messages — name, surname, email address, your message, and your preferred contact method.
- A reference code we generate for your submission, and the date and time it was received.
What we do not collect through this website
This website does not collect tax documents, Social Security numbers, ITINs, employer identification numbers, bank account or routing numbers, or copies of identification. There is no document upload on this site. If a page or email ever asks you for those through this website, it is not us.
Once you have started working with a tax professional, any documents needed to prepare your return are exchanged separately through a secure channel we will explain to you at that point — never through the forms on this website.
Why we keep it and how it is used
We use what you send for two purposes only: to prepare your return and to contact you about it. We do not sell your information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it for marketing unrelated to your return.
How it is stored and who can see it
Submissions are stored in an access-controlled database. Only authenticated Tax Mutt staff accounts that have been explicitly granted a role can read them, and records cannot be deleted through the website or its API. Data is encrypted in transit.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to stop contacting you. Email hello@taxmutt.com and quote your reference code if you have one. We keep intake records for as long as needed to prepare your return and to meet record-keeping obligations, and no longer than that.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update this page. General information on this site, including anything about tax, is general information and not tax advice for your specific situation.
